Within Reach, 2020
Albright-Knox Public Art "Works, From Home" Project
As we accept and adapt to the changes brought on by the COVID-19 crisis, we must forge new avenues of communication and connection that transcend the limitations of physical distance. While apart, we learn to appreciate the familiarity, consistency, and comforts of our once regular routines and grow to value the ordinary, which is often taken for granted. “Within Reach” illustrates this tension between separateness and togetherness. The hands, obscured by a fog of uncertainty and distortion, strain to make contact across a void. As we long for a sense of normalcy, we discover the meaning of connection and togetherness through isolation and separation.
