Beauty lies in the simplicity and innocence of childhood. The imagination of
a child has no limitations, no boundaries. As we grow up, the simplicity of living and our "magical thinking" slowly fades and life becomes much more complex as we face the challenges of making the transition into adulthood. Our childhood experiences play a vital role in shaping our personalities and behaviors. We develop characteristics throughout our childhood that affects our esteem and decision making as adults. There is a piece of our childhood that remains with us throughout our entire lives. This series displays the innocent imagination and mind of a child and the complex decision making and realities of becoming an adult. The colorful line drawings that extend from the paintings on to the wall are enlarged replicas of portraits I created as a young child. Their overwhelming presence is reflective of the carefree nature and extensive imagination of a child. The black and white portraits reflect the realities of growing up and the complexities of becoming an adult. The line drawing and the painting work together to display the contrast and connection between childhood and adulthood. |
